Stockton Children's Book of the Year

Annually between November and March a group of Y7 pupils take part in this very exciting event in conjunction with Stockton Libraries and approximately 20 other Stockton schools.

Students must read 5 titles chosen by Library staff within a specific timescale. After each book is read a review must be written, the best of these are then entered into a competition.  Category winners of ‘Best Book Review' and ‘Best Effort' receive a book token and certificate.

Once all books have been read, pupils must decide on their favourite in a secret ballot.  These votes are then collated and eventually Stockton Children's Book of the Year emerges.  The winning author is presented with a trophy at an Award Ceremony.

The Times Education Newsday takes place each year usually in March.  Students must produce a 12 page newspaper including live news, up-to-the-minute news, features, sport, local and school news and an editor's column.  This must be completed and in the post by 5pm.

The Norton School H.C. has taken part in this competition for three years.

  • In 2005 The Endeavour was awarded a 'highly commended'
  • In 2006 The Ancient was again awarded a 'highly commended'
  • In 2007 The New Ancient was awarded a 'distinction'.
