Learning Aims & Objectives
DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY – AIMS
- To promote confidence in investigating, evaluating and solving problems.
- To stimulate the consolidation of a body of knowledge specific to technology.
- To provide opportunities for individuals to develop skills in divergent thinking, application of judgement and the testing of solutions to problems.
- To prepare individuals for a life in an ever changing society and world.
- To motivate individuals toward a desire for pride and achievement through D & T.
- To promote and develop responsible attitudes through reasonable supervision, co-operation through sharing and group activities and interaction.
- To integrate, apply and develop knowledge from a wide range of curriculum areas.
- To establish a programme of study providing an accessible curriculum for a wide range of individuals with a wide range of learning needs.
- To develop courses consistent with vocational trends and matched to pupil needs.
OBJECTIVES :
- An awareness and need for safe working practice for the individual and those around.
- Encourage pupil centred learning and a sense of ownership of learning.
- To aid acquisition of a wide range of skills including graphical as a means of testing and presenting ideas and proposals.
- To develop communication skills through oral, written and graphic means, including IT.
- To develop an understanding of materials; their forms, properties and working constraints.
- To develop a logical and creative thought process in the search for design solutions.
- To encourage the use of mechanical means and hand processes in the extension of motor skills in the production of quality artefacts, systems and environments.
- Encourage the use of technology in all of its forms in the D & T process.
- Develop an awareness of technological change and its implications for life, both social and economic.
- To demonstrate to the individual the importance of D & T in the school curriculum as well as in the real world, including; industry, commerce and society.
- To motivate the individual towards a desire for quality outcomes consistent with their intellectual capacity.
