The DT Curriculum

All Design & Technology courses lead to a GCSE qualification either through:

  • Consumer Technology: GCSE Food or Textiles.

OR

  • Craft Design & Technology: GCSE Resistant Materials.

OR

  • GCSE in Manufacturing (Double Award) *

 

All our Design & Technology courses give the opportunity for students to progress to further education either through AS/A level or vocational / employment routes.

All our GCSE qualifications are gained through coursework and final examination. Throughout their coursework students can expect to develop a wide range of skills in their chosen area of study.

 

Course Options

GCSE-Resistant Materials Technology.

This course offers you the chance to specialise in Resistant Materials by producing one designed product which you will then make. (60% of your final grade)

Final examination is 40% of your grade.

 

GCSE Design & Technology - Food:

A practical course which provides opportunities for pupils to develop critical thinking and to manage a range of resources in order to develop food items which are suited to the needs of individuals or families. To help pupils to recognise the influence of current trends, the market economy and technological changes. Coursework tasks 80% of final grade and Examination 40%.

 

GCSE Design & Technology - Textiles:

A practical design & make course that encourages individual work allowing flexibility for all abilities opportunity is available to use a wide range of technology in the textile field. 60% coursework, 40% final exam.

 

Assessment for all the above courses is in 2 tiers; Higher (grades A*-C) or Foundation (grades C-G).

 

*GCSE in Manufacturing (Double Award).

A course which allows students to experience vocationally related learning while designing and making quality products..

Assessment is A*-G and results in 2 grades awarded. Choose from:

  • GCSE in Manufacturing (Food)


  • GCSE in Manufacturing (Textiles)


  • GCSE in Manufacturing (Resistant Materials)
